Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist
in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska and surrounding communities
Any dentist can advertise himself or herself as a cosmetic dentist. The question is, on what basis is that claim made? Dr. Kent Dodson in Lincoln, NE is an attendee of the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Training (LVI), and that is his basis. He has undergone very thorough post-graduate training in both cosmetic dentistry and neuromuscular dentistry. It included both theoretical scientific education, and meticulous hands-on training. He also participates in ongoing dental education by attending LVI seminars and classes.
When you set out to find a good cosmetic dentistry, keep your standards high. Here are some pointers for what to look for and what to ask.
Gather some likely names. You can do a Google search for a cosmetic dentist in your area, and then look at the websites of those who show up in the list. Look for the LVI logo. You could also ask among your friends and neighbors, but don't rely entirely on any stories they tell you for accurate information. The good old Yellow Pages are a third source of names. A fourth is the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Schedule consultations with those on your short list
When you go for those consultations, take a written list of questions with you. As you talk with each cosmetic dentist, make brief notes of the answers you receive. If any are not clear, ask further questions until you feel that you understand the issue.
- If you get the feeling that the dentist doesn't have time for you, move on.
- If you end up feeling just as puzzled about anything as when you started, move on.
- While you're there, glance around the office at the staff. Do they appear to be busy and content? How does the dentist relate to them? How do they seem to relate to each other? Does the office appear to be run efficiently?
- Ask to see some Before and After photos of any procedure you're interested in. Many cosmetic dentists have such photos on their websites, and some also have a book you can leaf through. Some can show you on their computer.
- Ask for the contact information of some previous patients, so you can ask them how their experience was at this office.
- Ask which professional organizations the dentist belongs to. Examples would be the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
- Ask how many times the dentist has previously performed the procedures you are interested in having. That number should be about 500 or more. You won't want to have a dentist practicing on your teeth.
- Ask to see someone about financing. Insurance companies do not cover purely cosmetic dental procedures, although if there is a health component to the reason they're done, they will often cover part of the cost. A good cosmetic dentist knows this and offers a variety of payment options, with zero interest, low monthly payments, long pay-back periods, etc. The office should have someone knowledgeable about this, who will take time to explain these options.
Dr. Dodson and his staff are highly trained and well-experienced in explaining and performing cosmetic dentistry procedures. We will give you clear answers and plenty of time to look around. Please feel free to send us an email, or call us to set up an initial consultation. You'll be pleased that you did!
