No reputable cosmetic dentist would give you porcelain veneers, for instance, without first replacing any decay present with porcelain fillings.
How cosmetic dental problems can be addressed
- Overcrowding and crookedness - can be corrected with Invisalign aligners rather than traditional braces. Depending on the specifics of the case, porcelain veneers and dental bonding might also be used.
- Mismatched sizes - can be corrected with porcelain veneers or crowns, or with dental bonding
- Too much gum showing - can be reduced and made nicely proportional by use of a soft tissue laser
- Misaligned teeth - can also be corrected with Invisalign aligners
- Gaps between teeth - if they're relatively small, can be corrected either with porcelain veneers or bonding
- Staining and yellowing - can be removed by professional tooth whitening, or at home using a take-home professional kit
- Metal fillings - can be replaced with porcelain inlays or onlays, or with white composite fillings
