Porcelain Veneers
in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska and surrounding communities
Porcelain veneers are much different than the old-fashioned caps most of us are familiar with. Those caps were thick and had dark metal underneath them. Porcelain veneers are a popular option for patients who suffer from cosmetic dentistry problems. They are thin shells of porcelain that are securely bonded to the teeth and can resolve almost all of your cosmetic problems including:
- Cracked teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Stained teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Gaps between teeth
Porcelain veneers are actually thin shells of a strong porcelain composite material that is created in a lab from a mold of your teeth that Dr. Dodson will take in the office. Then, using a specially formulated bonding agent, Dr. Dodson will affix the porcelain veneers to the front of your teeth, covering the gaps, chips, and cracks leaving with a brighter more beautiful smile.
At Adams Dental Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Kent Dodson and staff have been transforming the smiles of Nebraska residents for years and are proud to offer a variety of cosmetic dentistry procedures and treatments to address all of your dental needs. The Process
Typically, the application of porcelain veneers takes three visits to Adams Dental Care: diagnosis and planning, preparation and bonding. During the first visit, you will take an active role in the design of your new smile. Dr. Dodson will explain porcelain veneers thoroughly to you, and decisions about what is best for you will be made.
During the second visit, the preparation of the teeth visit, the teeth will be prepared for the veneers by first being lightly buffed. Only about a half a millimeter of the tooth is removed; this may require local anesthetic. A mold is then taken of the teeth, which is sent to the lab that will make your porcelain veneers.
The third and last appointment will take approximately 1-2 hours. First, the veneers are placed on the teeth to check their fit and color. At this time, the color can still be adjusted, but the color cannot be changed after the veneers are cemented in place. To apply the veneer, the teeth are cleansed with a solution to achieve a bond. A special cement is placed between the veneer and the tooth, and a visible light beam initiates the release of a catalyst to harden the cement.
Follow-up Visit
After approximately two weeks, you should return to our office for a follow-up visit. Keep in mind that upon close inspection, you may detect slight variations in the color of the veneers compared to your own teeth. This is common and even occurs with our natural teeth.
First impressions are extremely important, and your smile speaks volumes about you. A great smile is the first form of greeting that most of us present, and it will always be remembered. You need not hide your smile any longer. Porcelain veneers can provide you the confident, healthy smile you have dreamed about.
